NORTHWEST NATIVE DOGWOODS

A Note from Wally: I grow Northwest Native Dogwoods and many other Northwest Native Plants here in my Nursery and Gardens in the Willamette Valley in Western Oregon. I specialize in Northwest Native Plants and sell both Wholesale and Retail, depending on quantity. I usually have plants available year-round in one gallon containers and often in various other container sizes and as Bare Root plants in the Winter months. This site is intended as a reference for all who are interested in Northwest Native Plants: amateur, professional – everyone. For more information, go to my Home Page at www.nwplants.com and then click on Plant Catalog for current prices and availability. Be sure and then click on Plant Sales for any bargains. If you buy in large quantities, check the Wholesale Information Sites on my Home Page.

If you have any information about this species – stories, climates, uses, propagation, etc. please contact me at plants@nwplants.com If I publish your tips and information, I will credit you on the web and send you a credit memo.

Cornus nuttalii (PACIFIC DOGWOOD - Tree Form)

A beautiful flowering tree - brilliant white flowers in spring- sometimes late summer. Cream white flowers consist of four petal-like bracts, each 3" long. Trees are often multi-stemmed, about 20 ft. high. Fine yellow-reddish foliage in Fall. Excellent shade tree; will thrive in partial shade. Needs good drainage. Belongs in every native garden where bright flowers are a beacon of white against dark conifers.

For full detail on this plant, see my Cornus Nuttalii (Pacific Dogwood) species site.

I also grow a Northwest natural variety called Cornus sericea, var occidentalis (CREEK DOGWOOD) Almost identical to Red-Osier Dogwood above, but does not have runners (stolons).
Cornus sessilus(BLACKFRUIT DOGWOOD)
A most desirable dogwood, quite rare. Deciduous, to 15 ft.. Likes shade, moisture --- a nice "woodlander." Containers
Cornus canadensis (BUNCHBERRY - Perennial Form)
A delightful low deciduous dogwood ground cover. Has small white dogwood flowers - four white bracts surrounding a tiny pincushion of tiny flowerlets. Red berries in the fall. Likes shade & acid, moist soil.
