NORTHWEST NATIVE OAKS


NORTHWEST BROAD-LEAVED EVERGREEN OAKS

Lithocarpus densiflorus, var. echinoides (SHRUB TAN OAK)
Shrubby form of Tan Oak, 3 - 5 ft. Perfect for small gardens. Greenish gray leaves.
Quercus chrysolepis (CANYON LIVE OAK)
Fine evergreen, broad-leaved tree, 30 - 80 ft. Yellow- green leaves, to 3." Dry, well drained sites, sun or partial shade. Probably most ancient of American oaks.
Quercus sadleriana (SADLER'S OAK, DEER OAK)
Spreading shrubby evergreen oak, 5 - 10 ft. Likes partial sun. Excellent for small gardens. Very limited quantities.
Quercus vaccinifolia (HUCKLEBERRY OAK)
A delightful, shrubby evergreen oak, 4 - 5 ft. Similar appearance to the tree, Canyon Live Oak. Another fine shrub for small gardens. Very limited quantity.

NORTHWEST NATIVE DECIDUOUS OAKS

Quercus garryana (GARRY OAK, OREGON WHITE OAK)
A noble tree with white bark and an elegant branching pattern. Slow growing to 90 ft. Can live 500 years. Drought tolerant, deep roots. Leathery dark green leaves, 3 - 6 inches, turn brown in fall. Likes sun. Garry Oak captures the charm and mystery of Western Oregon. Decades and centuries of cold winters, hot dry summers, winds and rain shape and form this nostalgic tree. The twisted and gnarled branches hold the mysteries of time and timeliness of decades and centuries past - the perfect oak for the Northwest. Large B & B available from time to time.
Quercus kelloggii (CALIFORNIA BLACK OAK)
A handsome, slow growing tree, native to Southwest Oregon. Reaches 30 - 75 feet high. Beautiful foliage, leaves 4 - 10 inches. Sun or partial shade. Irregular trunks and broad canopy are very attractive. Grows on dry benches. Excellent shade tree.
